Floating Licenses in the Xentara user manual.

The Xentara licence server is used to distribute floating licences to different instances of Xentara. The Xentara licence server must run on a physical computer, or on a virtual machine. The Xentara licence server cannot run in a docker container.

Each licence server manages a certain number of floating licences for Xentara. Individual Xentara instances running on different computers can check out licences from a licence server. Once all the licences of a particular server are checked out, no more Xentara instances can receive licences until one of the other instances quits.

The floating licences served by a licence server are tied to particular Xentara licences. If you have purchased a small and a large Xentara licence, for example, a server may have 20 instances of the small licence and 3 instances of the large licence installer.

Required Assets

The Xentara licence server requires three things to operate:

  1. A server certificate and private key,
  2. A licence for the licence server itself, and
  3. One or more floating licences to serve to Xentara.

All these will be provided to you by embeded ocean GmbH when you purchase a Xentara licence that supports floating licences. You may also be given a Xentara customer login, in which case you can download the certificate and licence files from the Xentara customer portal.

Network Communication

By default, the Xentara licence server listenes on TCP port 39344 for Xentara connections. You may have to allow this port in your firewall configuration. The port number is configurable however, and can be changed in the config file.
