The Xentara Licence Server v1.0
User Manual
The Server Licence

The Xentara licence server requires a valid licence to run. This licence is separate from the floating xentara licences it serves. The server licence authorizes you to run the Xentara licence server on one or more particular computers.

The Server licence contains general licencing parameters for the server, like the name of the licensee. The server licence also forms the link between the server node licences and the actual Xentara licences.

Server Node Licences

Each computer intended to run the Xentara licence server requires a separate licence, called a server node licence. The server node licence is only valid in conjunction with a specific server licence.

Generating a Licence ID

In order to issue a node licence for a particular computer, embedded ocean GmbH needs a licence ID for the computer. The licence ID must be generated by running the Xentara licence server application on the target computer, and specifying the command line option --licence-id (Linux) or -LicenceId (Windows). Under Linux, the Xentara licence server is called xentara-licence-server, and is located under /usr/bin. Under Windows, the tool is called XentaraLicenceServer.exe and is located under App in the installation directory.

To generate a licence ID, use the following commands:

Linux:

xentara-licence-server --licence-id

Windows:

C:\Program Files\Xentara Licence Server\App\XentaraLicenceServer.exe -LicenceId

The generated licence ID will be printed to the standard output, which is normally the terminal or command window where the command was run.

You can write the licence ID to a file by redirecting the standard output in the usual way using “>”. To redirect the standard output to a file called “myNodeLicence.txt”, for example, use the following commands:

Linux:

xentara-licence-server --licence-id > myNodeLicence.txt

Windows:

C:\Program Files\Xentara Licence Server\App\XentaraLicenceServer.exe -LicenceId > myNodeLicence.txt
