Installing a Xentara Licence

To install a Xentara licence, all relevant licence files must be copied into one of the directories described below. All files must be places into the same directory. The licence files themselves are provided by embedded ocean GmbH. If you have a Xentara customer login, you can download the licence files in the Xentara customer portal.

Licence Files

Xentara licences are issued int the form of one or more licence files. The files contain, containing the Xentara licence itself, and any [node licences] (Node Licences) and skill licences. The licences may be present in a single licence file, or distributed over separate licence files.

Usually, the licence consist of two files, one containing the computer independent parts of the licence, including the licence information and licence terms (includeing the skill licences, and one containing only the computer specific node licence. The generic part of the licence will be the same on all computers that use the same licence package, and only the node licence file will differ from computer to computer. This makes upgrading, renewing, or expanding the licence easier, as only the main licence file has to be replaced, which is the same on every computer.

All the licence files must be placed together into one of the Xentara licence directories. Xentara will search all the directories in order, until it finds a Xentara licence.

Under Linux, Xentara will look for licences in the following directories, in order:

  • ${HOME}/.local/share/xentara/licence
  • /usr/local/share/xentara/licence
  • /usr/share/xentara/licence

You can override the searched directories as described in the XDG Base Directory Specification.

Under Windows, Xentara will look for licences in the following directories, in order:

  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\Xentara\Licence
  • %ProgramData%\Xentara\Licence
Attention
Xentara will only ever use the first Licence it finds, regardless of whether it is valid or not. If a directory contains an expired or invalid licence, Xentara will not go on to look for valid licences is other directories.
