Licensing

Xentara requires a valid licence to run. You can obtain a licence from embedded ocean Gmbh at sales.nosp@m.@xen.nosp@m.tara..nosp@m.io. If you have already obtained a licence or a licence pack, you should have received instructions on how to activate the purchased licences.

A Xentara licence contains general licencing paramters, like the name of the licensee, as well as the terms of the licence. The different possible licencing terms are described under Licensing Terms. The terms may include version restrictions, expiry date, data point limits, and other restrictions.

Obtaining and Installing a Licence (Quick Start)

When you acquire a Xentara licence from embedded ocean GmbH, a licence file will be generally be provided to you, containing the exact licencing terms of your licence. In order to use that licence on a particular computer, you also need a node licence for that computer.

To obtain and install a Xentara licence on a computer, proceed as follows:

  1. If you have not done so already, purchase a licence from embedded ocean GmbH by contacting sales.nosp@m.@xen.nosp@m.tara..nosp@m.io. Your sales representative will provide one or more licence files to you. You may also be given Xentara customer login, in which case you can download the licence files from the Xentara customer portal.
  2. Install Xentara, as described under Installation.
  3. Generate a licence ID by running the application xentara-licence-id (Linux) or XentaraLicenceId.exe (Windows) on the computer Xentara will run on. Detailed instructions can be found under Generating a Licence ID.
  4. Send the licence ID to embedded ocean GmbH to obtain a node licence file. If you have a Xentara customer login, you can generate node licence files yourself in the Xentara customer portal, up to the limit agreed upon in your contract.
  5. Copy the node licence file, together will the licence files from step 1, to /usr/share/xentara/licence (Linux), or C:\ProgramData\Xentara\Licence (Windows) on the target computer. Detailed instructions, as well as alternative install locations, can be found under Installing a Xentara Licence.
